The numbers are in! Earlier this month Action Realty of Sarasota did our annual research into how many people have relocated to this slice of paradise we call Sarasota. Our findings reveal that of all properties purchased in Sarasota County last year, a total of 5,527 purchases came from outside the Sunshine State.
It should come as no surprise that New Yorkers topped the chart with 753, or 13.6% of the total new homeowners.
Why do people typically flock to Florida? The most common answers are, naturally, the beautiful weather year-round and the relaxing, leisurely-paced lifestyle found on our state’s gorgeous coastlines. Cities such as Sarasota and Miami continue to make their marks on the map as arts, culture and culinary destinations. Transplants from northern metropolitan areas such as New York City find they can escape the bitter winters and hectic pace without sacrificing cultural amenities. Talk about a win-win!
For property purchases from out-of-state, New York beats out the second-place taker by just over 200 sales, but the rest of the top five come in at neck-and-neck. Can you guess which four states complete the top five on our newcomers list? Come play real estate expert on our Facebook page.
